Physiotherapy is an extremely important part of rehabilitation, both before and after many orthopaedic surgeries. Here at Bray Physiotherapy we often treat patients undergoing Total Hip Replacements, Total Knee Replacements, Shoulder Replacements, Shoulder Rotator Cuff Repair, Knee Surgery and Spinal Surgery.
Pre-Surgery
Physiotherapy can help build strength and improve joint mobility prior to your orthopaedic surgery. Your physiotherapist will be happy to answer any questions you have about your surgery and help prepare you both physically and mentally.
Post-Surgery
After surgery, you may experience some stiffness, pain or swelling, and loss of muscle strength. Initially, in hospital, you may be prescribed some basic exercises to get you started. After you have returned home, your physiotherapist will liaise with your orthopaedic surgeon and guide you through the next stages of rehabilitation.
You will be taught appropriate exercises to help you gain strength and mobility, alongside other treatment methods to help manage pain and swelling until you return to full function. You will also be advised on suitable activities that you can engage in. At Bray Physiotherapy we will be happy to answer any queries you have about your journey to recovery.
